Needle felted birth cockade
March 20, 2021 DIYEnglish No responses

In Italy, when we give birth, we have the tradition of hanging a birth cockade or a birth bow outside our home door to announce the birth to the world.

There are lots of different meanings around this tradition, some of them are to keep away bad energies, to bring good luck and to protect the baby. This is why I personally do it.

While I was still pregnant I looked around, but I couldn’t find any birth cockade I like so I decided to make one by myself.

I’ve used the needle felting technique to paint with wool. I’ve never tried to draw and paint with wool before, and I’m pretty happy on how it turned out. Considering that I did it last days of pregnancy, so I was a bit in rush to finish it.

If you want to see a time-lapse while I create this birth cockade you can find it on this link:

thank you for reading,

xoxo
