During my first trimester of pregnancy, I did experience a lot of nausea and smells aversion.
I found out that the smell of peppermint and eucalyptus essential oils was really helpful to reset my sense of smell and to feel less nausea.
Since I don’t like to use essential oils straight on the skin, to have these precious allies close to me and easily manageable, I’ve decided to make a simple balm to apply on my wrist, or on the top of my hands, or directly close to the nostrils.
This balm is super easy to make, you can choose any butter base you like.
If you wish to know how to make this balm keep reading or watch the video where I show you how I make it here:
These are the ingredients for a small dose, I like to have it fresh, and I like to change a little bit my ingredients every time so I make small portions, but you can adjust it to your preference.
-You will need a jar, big or little, or an empty container that you can easily carry around.
-Shea butter or any other butter.
-Peppermint essential oil works for me, or any other essential oil that when you smell helps you to feel less nausea.
-If you don’t have any butter, you can make a liquid version of this balm, by using a carrier oil. Sunflower seeds oil, almond oil are very light and they have no smell; or you can use extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil.
-If you want your balm to be harder, you can add beeswax.
That’s it, the ingredients are just a couple.
Now you have to choose if you want to melt your butter, especially if you live in a cold place you may have to do it anyway. Otherwise, if your butter is soft and the weather is warm you can simply mix well with 2 or 3 drops of your essential oil. The doses depend on how much balm you want to make. In a spoon of butter, I always start with just 2 drops of essential oil. You can always add more later if is not enough. Especially when I use strong essential oils like peppermint or eucalyptus I go easy with the drops.
What I like to do is to always keep a jar with pre whisked shea butter to use when I need soft butter for a quick recipe. Sometimes, if it’s really cold you need to melt even your soft butter, in order to prevent lumps in your creams. If you wish to see my favorite face cream I make with shea butter you can see the video here:

If you have to melt your butter, do it in a double boiler and wait until it cools down a bit before adding the essential oil. If the butter quantity is very small, I melt it carefully in a little container over a tea light candle, but be careful that it can crack if it’s not fireproof, so don’t leave it alone.
If you decide to use beeswax you have to melt the butter anyway because the wax needs to be melted well in order to mix it with the other ingredients. Melt them, turn off the fire and add the essential oil before it hardens.
That’s it, you have your nausea relief balm.
I like how easy it is to apply and to carry with me, to use wherever I feel the need to. It helps me a lot with nausea, but is also refreshing and can help to breathe during a cold or flu.
I hope this balm will help you to fight nausea in a natural way.
